Minor in Education

The Minor in Education at ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ« offers students a foundational understanding of educational theory, practice, and equity designed for those who are interested in the field of education but are not seeking initial teacher certification.

Program Overview

The minor consists of five course units that blend educational philosophy, human development, instructional strategies, and contemporary issues in schooling. Students gain valuable insights into teaching, learning, and educational systems—knowledge applicable across many fields such as psychology, sociology, social work, public policy, and more.

Course Requirements

To complete the minor, students must successfully complete the following:
One of the following introductory courses:

  • EDUC 230 – Student Development & Instructional Design
  • EDUC 210 – Child Development and Cognition
  • EDUC 211 – Adolescent Development and Cognition
  • EDUC 160 – Introduction to the Teaching Profession
  • EDUC 244 – Including and Supporting Learners with Disabilities
  • Two additional Education courses selected in consultation with an education advisor, based on the student's interests and career goals.

Certification Note

Students who pursue teacher certification in one or more approved secondary education areas (such as English, math, social studies, or science 7–12) will also fulfill the requirements for the education minor as part of their certification program.
